R-50 LED Panellite With Diffuser/Colorgel

This lightweight, yet powerful new camera light was created as an extremely efficient LED, ultra-lightweight, extremely compact light.

Users of DV camcorders can now enjoy a similar quality of luminous, soft, directional lighting.

This light features a conveniently located integrated on/off dimmer knob for instant 100% to 0 dimming, with minimal color shift. Output is flicker-free and heat-free and remains consistent.

This light produces 1.5 hours of continuous output from just 4 AA batteries (it's three times more efficient than a conventional tungsten camera light). The light can be run off of either standard or rechargeable batteries. Power can optionally be supplied through a convenient 5-12V power jack located on the unit.

The compact, low-profile light is ideally suited for mounting on a mini DV camera. Measuring just 4" W x 3" H x 1.5" D.

    Mostly good...could be better

I have two of these heads which I use for illuminating large scale model railway equipment.

The heads provide adequate fill light for macro detail photography. There is enough illumination for a decent depth of field which is important when working with models.

I will buy another to provide some top light which should help 'kill' some of the shadows that even well balanced side-front illumination cannot be eliminated.

Quite expensive for some LEDs in a cheap feeling enclosure: but there is not much on the market that allows one to work with continuous light and without a normal mains supply.

Plus you do not have to spend hours shooting with flash that is too intense when working less than 20cms from the subject.

The output is not so high that it burns out the subject at close quarters. How it works with life size subjects or as a video light I have no idea.

But as an affordable artificial source that is instantly on and quickly stored without waiting for it to cool down these are a useful addition to any photographers accessory bag.
